NATIONAL STEEL CONSTRUCTORS, STEEL CITY ERECTING REPORTS 1.18 RECORDABLE INCIDENT RATE TO OSHA

Superlative safety score is five times lower than the average steel erection contractor, affirming commitment to safety as a company value.

Plymouth, Mich., and Birmingham, Ala., Feb. 16, 2010 – National Steel Constructors LLC and its Steel City Erecting division, one of the nation’s leading steel and power industry equipment installation construction companies, today announced it has reported a 1.18 Recordable Incident Rate to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). The score, approximately five times lower than the average steel erection contractor, affirms National and Steel City’s commitment to safety as a company value.

The company also highlighted its extremely competitive Experience Modification Rate (EMR) as an example of its commitment to continuous safety excellence. A competitive, or low, EMR means a lower cost for workers compensation insurance and cost savings for customers.

“We employ only the most qualified safety managers on our construction projects, all of whom report directly to me and I am personally involved in reviewing our daily safety reports,” said National Steel Constructors CEO Bob Dunn. “Thanks to our important alliance with FDRsafety, we’ve not only built and perpetuated an outstanding safety track record, but instilled a culture of safety that helps us remain competitive for our customers and ahead of the curve as a company.”

FDRsafety President Jim Stanley, who rose to the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor in the United States government’s Department of Labor, regularly consults with National and Steel City on its corporate safety program and on all projects. Stanley delivers advice, counsel and training for all managers and supervisors, and has counseled senior managers, presented at company meetings, and submitted safety articles for company publications.

“I believe National and its Steel City Erecting division continues to serve as a model example of a company committed to safety excellence,” Stanley said. “It’s not enough to make safety a priority. Safety must become an inherent company value because priorities always change, and such a commitment always begins at the top.”

National and Steel City have built year-over-year growth and success fueled by the construction of turnkey Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) required by various environmental mandates affecting the Power industry. The company has built an outstanding reputation for diverse mechanical equipment installation, including heavy duct, precipitators, SCRs and air-cooled condensers.

National and Steel City Erecting are proud to serve a broad cross-section of industrial customers, including: Bechtel, CIBA-Geigy, Fluor Constructors, Georgia Pacific, Georgia Power, Kimberly Clark, Kerr-McGee, Exxon-Mobil, IPSCO Steel and Siemens Westinghouse.
