Northwest Midfield Terminal
NSC used an innovative erecting technique to put
the roof into place on the terminal. The soaring
design of the new one mile-long, two-million-square-foot
airport terminal with high arched ceilings, open spaces
and large gate areas, inspired the remarkably resourceful
approach to raising the roof into position.
A large percentage of the steel for the roof was ground-
assembled in eight-bay segments. Once NSC
completed the structural steel components, follow-on
trades had a 20-day window to install the finished
systems. Then, using an engineering lifting system
comprised of 16 jacks, one on each side of the bay
segments, stationed on top of the columns, the entire
roof was elevated at once.
